PHARMACOLOGY (for Pharmacy Technicians)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • General principles of pharmacology as they relate to health occupation professionals. 
  • Introduction to pharmacology with drug classifications, actions, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, methods of administration, client education and dosage calculations
  • Pharmaceutical nomenclature and classification
  • Mechanisms of drug actions, interactions, indications and contraindications
  • Methods and side affects of administering therapeutic agents primarily in the nervous, endocrine, skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal systems




    PREREQUISITES

  • Currently enrolled in MK Education’s Pharmacy Technician program
  • Practicing pharmacy technician with a minimum of 1500 hours completed




PROGRAM HOURS

  • 60 contact hours




INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION

  • Licensed and practicing pharmacist
  • 3rd or 4th year pharmacy student




CERTIFICATION

  • No certification for pharmacology
  • Pharmacy technicians can take the PTCB exam or ExCPT exam
