HEMODIALYSIS TECHNICIAN

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Highlight organs and function of the renal system
  • Renal failure/ESRD, Uremia, psychosocial aspects of renal failure
  • Infection control and standard precautions
  • Procedural clinical proficiency
  • Extracorporeal circuit and water treatments
  • Medical terminology and Anatomy/Physiology
  • Maintain dialysis equipment
  • Development of Dialysis




    PREREQUISITES

  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Medical terminology
  • Biology coursework with emphasis on cell structure
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • CPR training
  • No prior criminal record




    PROGRAM HOURS

  • 400 contact hours (250 hours didactic and 150 hours lab and externship)





INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION

  • A minimum of 4 years of dialysis experience
  • 2000 hours in the last 3 years in clinical work
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Professional certification in dialysis




CERTIFICATION

  • Prepares students for the BONENT certification exam issued by the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology
