PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Basic functions of the Electronic Health Record, its’ benefit to us as healthcare workers and the benefit to physicians and patients 
  • Basic technological requirement for an Electronic Health Record System and discuss some of the available options 
  • Best practices for transition from a paper based record to an Electronic Health Record 
  • Current health information technology standards as well as the rules and regulations that govern Electronic Health Record software



PREREQUISITES

  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
  • Basic computer functions and medical terminology
  • No prior criminal convictions of any kind




PROGRAM HOURS

  • 100 contact hours (80 hours didactic and 20 hours externship)




INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION

  • Certified electronic health specialist
  • Certified professional coder with at least 2 years of experience
  • Currently working in the field




CERTIFICATION

  • Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) certification exam
  • Offered by the National Health career Association or NHA.

  • Assemble patients’ health information including medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, and all other healthcare provider services
  • Organize and manage health information data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security
