DENTAL ASSISTANT

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Description of legal and ethical responsibilities of the dental health care worker
  • General dental setting/office procedures
  • Principles of microbiology and disease prevention and infection control procedures
  • Anatomy and physiology as it relates to Dental functions
  • Record patient assessment data; use and knowledge of dental instruments and equipment
  • Pharmacology and anesthesia as they relate to dentistry



PREREQUISITES

  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Check with local state laws for any other requirements




PROGRAM HOURS

  • 240 contact hours (120 hours didactic and 120 hours externship)




INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION

  • Dentist
  • Dental Assistant with 2 years of experience
  • Dental Hygienist with 2 years of experience




CERTIFICATION

  • Preparation of the Certified Dental Assistant Exam (CDA)
  • Additional practice hours will be required
